World Heritage Sites Karakorum Ruins

Enjoy a continental world heritage site and a hot spring trip at the same time
There are many other attractions in Mongolia besides the prairie. Among them, the cultural landscape area called Orkhon Valley has many archaeological sites and historic sites, and the most famous is the Karakorum archaeological site. When the Mongolian and Turkic nomads who had lived in Mongolia for a long time founded the country, they chose the capital as the Orkhon River basin. Genghis Khan has also ordered the establishment of the capital of the Mongol Empire there. The city of Karakorum was built in 1235 by the order of Genghis Khan and is famous for being temporarily the center of the world. Erdenezuu, one of the world heritage sites in Mongolia, the ruins of Kharkhorin. Suddenly appearing in the prairie, the ruins are a group of temples with a long history in Mongolia, with a total of 108 high-impact white pagoda and outer walls left surrounding the Buddhist temple. The "Karakorum History Museum" was constructed by a joint project of the Mongolian Cabinet and JICA, and Japanese ODA, which is a short walk from the ruins.

Khustai National Park
The last wild horses in the world, "Takhi" or "Przewalski horses", can be found in this area. In addition to the wild horse Takhi, about 50 types of mammals such as deer, gazelles, and marmots inhabit here. The Khustai NP is located about 130 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar and has been carrying 15 wild horses TaKhi from the Netherlands to Mongolia since 1992. Since returning wild horses to Mongolia from European zoos (Netherlands and Switzerland) in 1995, the number has now increased to 2000. Tens of thousands of wild horses, TaKhi, used to live freely in the Mongolian steppes, but became extinct in the early 20th century. After the wild horse Takhi returned to his hometown of Mongolia for the first time in 100 years, the number has steadily increased, and now more than 300 Takhi in total are their ancestors in the Khustai NP in Central Province and Govi-Altai Province.
There is a museum of information about returning the wild horse Takhi to his hometown in Mongolia at a tourist camp located in the protection area of Khustai NP. Also, information of animals and plants living in the Khustai NP is displayed in this museum.
