Highlights and Information

From 2023 to 2025 the Mongolian government is strengthening efforts to attract inbound tourists as "Visit Mongolia Year: Welcome to Mongolia." Mongolia has many diverse charms unique to it: gazing at a sky full of stars visible only in clear night skies, a comfortable ger stay on the steppe, savoring the hearty meals of the nomads, and being soothed by the morin khuur and khoomei. This year a big-hit Japanese drama was filmed over two months at locations in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, including the Khongor Sand Dunes, the Bayanzag fossil site, the Yolyn Am valley, Ikh Gazriin Chuluu and Tsagaan Suvarga (white stupa), and its filming and grand story have drawn attention.

Each of these sightseeing spots is distinct and characteristic: the Khongor Sand Dunes, a wonderful spot where you can enjoy moving scenery on these great dunes said to be Mongolia's No. 1; the Yolyn Am region with wild sheep and goats, wolves, Gobi bears, vultures and wild asses; Tsagaan Suvarga (white stupa), where after heavy rain the torrent flowing below the stupas looks like a huge waterfall; and the Bayanzag area of the Gobi's red sandstone.
We are happy that several Shine Zuuch Travel guides worked hard as interpreters on that big-hit drama, joining the film crew from June to August 2023.
We are well prepared with a Gobi Desert tour introducing the hit drama's shooting and filming locations.
English-speaking guides and private drivers who helped the drama's filming crew will guide you to the filming locations, so you can feel safe and secure.
Please enjoy the local Mongolian filming locations while traveling along the road of the big-hit Japanese drama that grew up in Mongolia's Gobi Desert.

Terelj National Park

On the way from Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park (70 km, about 1 hour by private car), you will see rocks and stones of interesting shapes. Be sure to visit Turtle Rock.It is the quiet protected area closest to Ulaanbaatar, surrounded on all sides by mountains and forest, with a clear stream flowing. Enjoy horse trekking, hiking and mountain walks in beautiful nature, meet nomads who live on the vast steppe tending livestock, taste handmade dairy products, and even climb Turtle Rock.

Turtle Rock

Soon after entering Terelj National Park, a rock in the shape of a big turtle comes into view. The rock is a large granitic pegmatite of orthoclase. The big rock, about 15 m high, stands alone right at the foot of the mountain. You can climb up to around the base of the neck. You can enjoy a little adventure, such as going under the rock.It is a popular tourist attraction, with rocky mountains of rare shapes said to be miracles of nature, the 15 m high Turtle Rock and more. Not only local Mongolians but tourists from various countries around the world come to enjoy this scenery.

Aryabal Monastery

You can also taste scenery so wonderful you can't believe it is near a city. Here you can make a trip to the natural panorama Turtle Rock and Aryabal Monastery. A Tibetan Buddhist monastery surrounded by rocky mountains on small hills in great nature. The colorful main hall is on the mid-slope of a rocky mountain.
The approach to the main hall is steppe at first, then you cross a suspension bridge and finally climb stone steps. There are also prayer wheels used in Tibetan Buddhism, and it is still supported by deep faith.
