Transport: domestic flight, private car

Morning: by private car to the airport, then a domestic flight to Murun in Khovsgol Province. Noon: after arriving at the Murun camp, lunch at the restaurant. Afternoon: move to the interior of Khovsgol.

Most of the route is off-road, so we stop the car for rests along the way. Evening: arrive at the tourist camp.

Khovsgol Fishing Tour, 8-Day Tour

Khovsgol is famous for fishing tours. The fishing season starts in mid-AugustFor serious fishing lovers, it will be a joy to be able to "come overseas and enjoy fishing on Lake Khovsgol." Rent a full set of fishing gear locally and go by car to the spots with an instructor holding a local fishing license.

Taimen Fishing Conditions and Notes

Booking deadline

* Tour applications should in principle be made at least 15 days before departure (excluding holidays). If an application is made after that, before starting arrangements we will first reply to you by email and begin arrangements only after confirming that we can reliably reach each other. For departures 7 days or later, we will respond as far as possible, so please consult us. (Please note that cancellation charges begin from 10 days before.) Please check the usage guide before applying.

Price notes

* This course runs from 2 people, but we can accept an application from 1 person. In that case, a surcharge for a 1-person tour and a single-room surcharge apply. Please ask about the price for one person before applying.

Payment method

* After reserving by email and phone, we send a travel confirmation and an invoice to your email address. After checking the invoice, transfer 50% of the travel fee to our bank account. The reservation becomes official after we confirm receipt. The remaining 50% is transferred to our bank account before the trip starts.

  About Fishing Tackle  Mainly targeting large taimen (Amur trout) and smaller lenok (Amur lenok), grayling and others. The recommended gear differs by species, so please prepare according to the fish you want to catch.
🎣 Tackle for large fish (taimen)
Taimen fishing in Mongolia requires sturdy gear that can withstand powerful fights.
* Rod: a heavy-action fly rod rated 9–10 weight (9 feet or longer), or a sturdy spinning/baitcasting rod for lure fishing.
* Reel: a reel with sufficient line capacity and an excellent drag system.
* Line: it is handy to have both a floating line and a sinking-tip line (T-200, T-300, etc.) for large streamers.
* Leader/tippet: strong, 40 lb (about 18 kg) or more.
* Lures/flies:
* Mouse patterns: large flies imitating mice and small mammals. Very effective for luring surface attacks from taimen.
* Large streamers: large bright-colored flies of 4–8 inches (about 10–20 cm) in black, olive green, orange and so on (e.g. Woolly Bugger, Zonkers).
* Poppers: popper flies and lures that make a big splash on the surface.
* Spinners/spoons: big, noisy (rattle-equipped) lures are also effective. Replace treble hooks with barbless single hooks.
🐟 Tackle for small fish (lenok, grayling)
Lenok and grayling can be targeted with the same approach as ordinary trout.
/Rod: a medium-action fly rod rated 5–6 weight.
* Line: floating line.
* Leader/tippet: 3X or 4X tapered leader and tippet.
* Flies:
/Dry flies: imitations of caddis, mayflies and terrestrials (grasshoppers, ants, etc.).
* Nymphs: standard nymphs such as bead-head nymphs.
* Small streamers: small streamers of 1–3 inches (about 2.5–7.5 cm) in brown, olive green, black and so on.
🥾 Other equipment and essentials
/Waders and wading shoes: essential, as most fishing is done in rivers.
* Polarized sunglasses: important for seeing into the water and protecting your eyes. Bringing a spare is reassuring.
* Clothing for the weather: Mongolia has large temperature swings, so layered clothing is recommended, such as warm clothes, a waterproof jacket, quick-drying clothes and warm socks.
* Sunscreen and lip balm.
* Headlamp.
* Insect repellent spray.
* Tools: line clippers, pliers, hook sharpener, small knife and so on.
  Best Season for Taimen Fishing  The best seasons for taimen fishing in Mongolia are said to be June and September to mid-October. The official fishing season usually runs from June 15 to November 1, but within this period there are times when good catches are especially expected.
🗓️ Season details
The taimen fishing season in Mongolia is mainly divided into two peaks: early summer after spawning, and autumn when they feed ravenously in preparation for winter.
🎣 Early summer season (mid-June to end of July)
Features: right after the June 15 opening, taimen that have finished spawning begin to feed actively.
Fishing: as water temperatures rise, the fish are active, and surface fishing with large mouse patterns (mouse-imitating flies) is very effective.
Notes: late July to early August is the rainy season, so the risk of river swelling and muddiness is highest. Fishing may temporarily become difficult.
🍁 Autumn season (late August to mid-October)
Features: temperatures start to drop and taimen again feed actively to build strength for winter.
Fishing: water levels fall and the water clears, making conditions ideal for fly fishing. It is widely considered the best time to target large taimen.
Notes: from September, mornings and evenings become severely cold, so sufficient cold-weather gear is needed. It may also snow.
✨ Summary: the most recommended time
Overall, September is regarded as the "prime season" when the most consistently good catches can be expected. The weather is relatively stable then and large fish chase food actively, so you can enjoy the real pleasure of taimen fishing amid Mongolia's grand scenery.
