At Mongolia's northernmost edge, on the border with Russia, spreads a taiga ecosystem of forests dominated by larch and open valleys reminiscent of polar tundra. This is part of the Siberian permafrost ecosystem and is very different from the steppe grassland seen in most of Mongolia. Because of its isolated and hard-to-reach location, the most untouched, uninhabited land in all of Mongolia is here. Equally genuine is the culture of the reindeer herders, only a few hundred people. They live in tents and graze reindeer in the taiga forests and alpine meadows. It is a perfect chance to meet a real shaman, taste reindeer milk and ride a reindeer. The people of the taiga value true friendship and loyalty to the traditions of their ancestors. By touching this unique life and culture you will feel as if you came from another planet or teleported from another era.

The Tsaatan are one of the last nomads in the world living in Mongolia, and the only tribe living on Mongolia's northern border. Their present way of life is like the way of life of 200 to 300 years ago.
